CEHMM - Grassland Bird Habitat Management Workshop

Grassland Bird Habitat Management Workshop

August 9, 2016

Bueyeros, NM. – Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is sponsoring a bird habitat management workshop for landowners and resource professionals from 8 – 3:30pm on August 26th. Jack and Tuda Libby Crews are hosting the workshop at Ute Creek Cattle Company Ranch in Bueyeros, NM. Attendance is FREE but space is limited so please RSVP.

Speakers from Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, Center for Excellence (CEHMM), Natural Resources Conservation Service, Audubon New Mexico, NM Department of Game & Fish, and NM Association of Conservation Districts will cover topics including grassland bird species and their habitat needs, managing your land with prescribed grazing, making your ranch more drought resilient, conservation incentive programs for landowners, benefits of managing for Lesser Prairie-chicken, Audubon New Mexico’s Conservation Ranching Initiative and more!

The day will begin at the Ute Creek Cattle Company Ranch at 8am. Participants will travel to the Bird Sanctuary on the ranch to look for birds (bring your binoculars!), learn about their habitat needs, witness the benefits of conservation plans, learn about the benefits of prescribed grazing from professionals, and learn about water conservation on the ranch.

Lunch will be catered and is FREE!

After lunch special guest speaker Russell Davis will discuss how he morphed from being a rancher to a rancher who actively participates in wildlife habitat conservation on his ranch outside of Ordway, CO. He is a strong advocate for similar efforts in ranching communities, is a founding member of the Karval Mountain Plover Festival and is a board member of Partners for Conservation. After Russell other resource professionals will give short presentations about how to be good stewards of the land. The workshop will end at about 3:00 pm.

This workshop is made possible by a grant through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
